Subject: Advisory regarding closure of accounts maturing on 31st March 2026 - reg.

Respected Sir/Madam,

In continuation to the End-of-Year Instructions for FY 2025-26 circulated vide letter referred above, it is informed that although 31st March 2026 is a closed holiday, it is treated as working day for the purpose of EoY processing.

There is a possibility that considering 31st March as a holiday, accounts maturing on 31st March 2026 may be inadvertently closed on 30th March 2026. This would result in non-application of interest for 31st March 2026. It is clarified that such closures would be treated as Premature Closure (PMC), leading to unintended financial loss to customers.

Accordingly, Circles are requested to ensure that such accounts shall not be closed on 30th March 2026 without due information to the customer about the interest loss. Hence this information may be circulated to all post offices to avoid customers inconvenience.

This issues with the approval of the competent authority.
